"The Lower Refugee" |
| Once I left McCall,
it took almost
another whole day to get to Basin because I drove on two-lane back roads.
I saw jaw-dropping canyons formed by the Salmon River through the Grand View Canyon. This interesting sign on the Payette River was trying to entice me into joining a cause. But I was confused. Should I repent, or just pick up litter? I listened to some great radio, including KZID out of McCall and/or Orofino, and a program on pipe organs from some unidentified public radio affiliate. |
| I crossed into Montana at the Chief Joseph Pass and drove into Butte. |
| I could see the Berkley Pit in the distance, and it made me anxious to get to Basin. |
| I arrived in Basin. |
| Basin is smack-dab in the middle of mining country, and one hundred years ago was an active mining town. |
| The Hewitt Building
is on the left, and was originally a bank.
I had the apartment and studio ~ the entire ground floor. |
